What We Know?

The Ohio House is in the process of looking at two competing sports gambling Bills. To spare you the details, both bills put forward the plan to legalise sports gambling in the Buckeye State at some point in 2020. One through the Ohio Lottery and the other through existing Casinos within the state. 

At School of Bets we are hopeful that will include mobile betting with in app sign ups and oth bills suggest this. With Ohio Governor Mike Dewine said to prefer the Ohio Casino Control Commision taking regulatory oversight we should get our wish in a big way!

Sportsbooks have already begun locking up ‘skins’ with large casinos in Ohio to allow entry to the mobile betting space. The biggest of these deals is with Penn National Gaming Inc who own several properties across the state including the Hollywood Casinos in Columbus and Toledo as well as the Dayton Raceway. 

A ‘skin agreement’ refers to a multi year deal signed between the two parties. The skins are tiered in order of preference where particular providers are given 1st skins and other are awarded 2nd and 3rd skins. Access to the market is based on the amount of skins allowable under the legislation. In New jersey Casinos can operate up to three skins. Let’s hope Ohio follows suit!
